ITA- Dependence
Quick question on ITA- how can I demonstrate that a 17 year old is financial dependent on us- he goes to college - is that enough?

Hi moomoo,
We bmitted our ITA and have had a request from the case officer for proof they attend school and college, such as letter on headed paper or proof of EMA. They also have requested bank statements for both children, again to prove dependency, even if they have some sort of paid employment.

My son was 18 we needed:
A cover letter stating impact our leaving him behind would have. Homeless, insufficient funds to set up or maintain own home. Even stated although had relatives we had no contact with them so could not go to live with any relative. If has no job say so in cover letter.
Letter on headed paper from the school stating currently a pupil (or words to that effect).
If your son has a bank account, will need 1 years worth of statements. We rang the bank and asked for a years back statements, it took a week to get. (kids don't always see the reason for keeping bank statements)
If has a part time job after school or weekends a letter from employer stating hours of contract - my son was contracted to zero hours, but worked almost full time. As our son had a job we needed to prove he was not being paid cash in hand as well as direct into the bank. This letter was sufficient.
