IRRV question
I lived in New Zealand from 2004 - 2007 with my wife and kids. Before we left we were issued Indefinite RRV's. I understand that the IRRV has been replaced by the new PRV. We now want to return to New Zealand and have recently renewed our UK passports and I'm a bit concerned whether we qualify for the new PRV as we've been out of NZ for nearly 5 years. Is it just a case of taking our passports to the NZ office in London and getting the new visa or do we have to apply from scratch? Any advice would be appreciated.

It's not that cloudy and does make sense once you get your head round it!
Mike, if you all have IRRVs then you can all return to NZ and take up residency on arrival. Indefinite means just that, it doesn't expire. If you hold an IRRV then you are 'deemed' to hold the new equivalent which is the PRV. You should be able to take your new and old passports along to NZ House, pay the transfer fees and be issued PRVs. If your passport contains an indefinite RRV:Your indefinite RRV is deemed to be a permanent resident visa. When it is time to transfer your residence status into a new passport, the new label will be a permanent resident visa. |
