Default Husband's Job on SOL and points good - what next?

Hi there,

My husband's job has suddenly appeared on the New Zealand SOL as a profession in High Priority. He took the points test and got this:

Skilled Employment
0 points for your skilled employment in New Zealand for 12 months or more
0 points for your skilled employment in New Zealand for less than 12 months
50 points for your offer of skilled employment in New Zealand
5 bonus points for your work or offer
55 points for skilled employment
Qualifications
10 points for recognised basic qualification
50 bonus points for recognised post-graduate qualification
5 bonus points for qualification
60 points for qualifications
Relevant Work Experience
15 points for relevant experience
0 bonus points for relevant experience in New Zealand
5 bonus points for work experience in New Zealand
20 points for relevant work experience
Age
25 points for age
Partner
0 points for partner employment
10 points for partner qualification
10 points for partner
175 total points of 100 required

He got 175 points and there was 100 required so I'm assuming that means he passed.

We approached two jobs yesterday and both have written back to say his CV is of interest but they can only consider him if he is in the country. So we want to move to New Zealand now. We've worked out that we have enough income and savings to keep us going while he is out of work for a long time. But I was wondering if any one can inform us of all the things/niggles/obstacles we might not have thought of?

Thanks.

What does SOL stand for ?

Does he have a job offer?
if he does not cannot submit any points relating to it

Not sure but think you can only claim for one qualification

those points you have listed don't equal 175 so maybe I'm missing something

If you don't have a valid visa to work here you would be coming over on a visitors visa to you would need to show onward journey out of the country after 6mths.

Skilled Employment
0 points for your skilled employment in New Zealand for 12 months or more
0 points for your skilled employment in New Zealand for less than 12 months
50 points for your offer of skilled employment in New Zealand
You can only claim points for a job offer, once you actually have the offer - so doesn't count towards your EOI
5 bonus points for your work or offer
Again not relevant if you don't have a job offer, unless of course you are referring to the additional points you could claim if your job title is on the LTSS List - please clarify
55 points for skilled employment

Qualifications
10 points for recognised basic qualification
50 bonus points for recognised post-graduate qualification
5 bonus points for qualification
60 points for qualifications
You can only claim for ONE qualification - so a lot of these points will go
Relevant Work Experience
15 points for relevant experience
0 bonus points for relevant experience in New Zealand
5 bonus points for work experience in New Zealand
Was this work experience in NZ relevant to your current job?
20 points for relevant work experience
Age
25 points for age
Partner
0 points for partner employment
10 points for partner qualification
Again it has to be a recognised qualification
10 points for partner
don't think you can claim points just for having a partner, pls clarify
175 total points of 100 required
So sorry your points are not anywhere near the 175 as listed, and they need to be over 140 or a job offer for automatic selection (generally on the LTSS or ISSL list), if below, please look at the latest pools to see how others have been drawn. If you cant claim any points for LTSS and you are below 140 its unlikely you will be picked.

You haven't said what profession you are in either? Also note any claims for qualifications have to be relevant to the specific job and a recognised qualification (according to NZQA)

With regard to claiming points for relevant experience, you need paperwork to prove this, either pay slips, job contracts, letter from employer etc to back up any points claimed.

As Mrs F said you cant just to NZ and work, you can come over on a visitors visa but must show forward journey is booked.

You don't mention children, if you do have them and come over on a visitors visa, they wouldn't be able to go to school (assuming they are school age).

Also if you went on a visitors visa, you wouldn't be allowed to ship any furniture etc on this type of visa, so all your stuff would have to stay in the UK.

Hope I haven't missed anything, sorry to scupper your 175 points - but i'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I have missed anything.

Good luck.

Hi ellenarosemary

it is a misconception and something an Immigraiton Advisor told us that the qualification has to be relevant to the job. It only has to be relevant if the description calls for it to be. you can claim qualification points for a qualification obtained from any of the approved bodies. if it doesn't equate to the job you just get less points but you can claim points. Or you could back in 2011/2012
In our case my husband's degree is not in the field he now works in but as it is from a recognised body he was able to claim some points for it.

Thanks Mrs F for clarification, it was an immigration advisor that told us that too - will make a mental note for next time. My husband doesn't have a degree just over 15 years experience in his field which was counted instead, so it never came up at immigration.

I'd read her history, it'll tell you all about their professions and time wasted by everyone on BE forum so far.... Sorry to be rude but seriously, she needs to make up her mind as to where to move...

I know It is usually better to really want to emigrate somewhere rather than move somewhere just because you can get a visa to that country...especially NZ which is fairly isolated and does have plenty of downsides which ought to be taken into account before arrival

Just looked at the history, multiple questions with similar content on both Australia and New Zealand - as you said perhaps a destination should be decided upon first.

and Canada and Bahrain...

My advice is choose a country you want to live in and then look into whether you can get a visa.
Going somewhere just because they offer a job or the visa application is easy and possible is not a good plan. You have to really want and choose to live somewhere because of what or where it is for it to work.

Whats this all about? Surely you can ship stuff there anytime you want? Ive only done it from the other side (as an Importer) but I used to import pallets of stuff from around the world.
