Now i'm not looking for people to say I took so and so to New Zealand but I was just after an idea about how much the whole application etc costs. Once you've done that how much are you likely to have spent? Sorry if it's a silly question. I just wants to know everything I can.

£10.5k should see you over there with PR and your furniture, not including a recce trip or set up costs the other side like buying a car, rent deposits etc. Big things are flights and shipping, medicals are surprisingly hefty if you're a family, and getting ready to let the house out eats a few pennies too. Basically it is nuff cash!!

Yes I agree, we paid about £9,700 for everything and that's shipping the furniture too.

we arrived 3 weeks ago and so far we have bought - car, twist 'n' go bike, internet, rented house and put down holding fee, paid for 2 sofas, bought telephones and rented a line, bought telephone cards, school uniform, did a big shop, got computer table, bbq and 2 x headboards (from Trademe) and all in all that has set us back approx £7,000.

Set-up costs all depends on what you are bringing over and once you do get here do you want 2nd hand or new (car etc etc), we are very pleased with what we have got and we are now settled and loving it.

Hi if you dont mind me asking what size is the house and how much is the rent, we will be in christchurch in aprox 3-4 months and i would like a short term rental before we buy

Hi we have rented a beautiful 4 bedroomed house in Rolleston just outside ChCh (takes about 25 mins to get into the city) and it costs us $400 a week.

Check out Trademe for rental properties, that is where we first saw ours and we are very happy with it.
