How to get my solicitor boyfriend to NZ!??

Hi guys, I have been living in NZ for five years now and my long-distance boyfriend is considering moving over. He is a property solicitor with around 8 years post qualification experience.

I guess we would like to get some advice about what he can expect in terms of cross-qualifying ( I hear there are exams) and his chances of getting work. Also can he work while he is studying for the exams?

I guess he can't come over on a partner visa as we have lived together whilst visiting each other but not beyond that. I am not sure what he would have to do, visa wise??

Any solicitors out there who can offer some advice or guidance so we can plan our next steps?

Thanks for any help!! We aren't sure where to start but this site has always helped Me in the past so I am hopeful!!

Smiler..

Might be a good idea to trawl TradeMe and Seek for those agencies that specialise in Legal recruitment and then contact them...

he would have to apply for a visa to enable him to work so first thing would be to check out the Skilled lists to see if his profession is on it, bear in mind property dealings a very different here to the UK

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...ls.htm?level=1

then he would need to fill out the EOI to see how many points he can claim

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/pointsindicator/

magic number of 140 is required for automatic selection, he can still apply with less but check out the previous months selections to see if it is worth doing. If not then as advised get onto Seek, Trademe and start looking for work.

How old is he?

I believe his quals will need assessment before any practicing license would be issued.

He should also check out the NZIS website and do a points check under the Skilled Migrant Category.

If he gained a job offer, he might look to apply for a temporary work visa to get him here and working.
