How do I get started....?
Hello everybody,
I am brand new to all this so hoping somebody will be able to point me in the right direction. As feeling a bit confused....
I am a secondary school teacher with 2 years experience. My OH is an centrifuge engineer on oil rigs and land refinerys. We are not married but have been living together 7 years and we don't have any children.
We are just beginning to explore the possibility of a move to NZ.
If you wouldn't mind giving a bit of guidance, I have a few questions to get me started.
- What is the average time for EOI acceptance?
- Can my OH be included on my visa if we are not married?
- Do you have to have a job offer for Skilled Migration?
I hope you can help with some some of my questions. Any pointers gratefully received... as I am completely new to the process
Much appreciated.

Hi and welcome!, to take your questions:
That would be an irrelevant number in a points-based system as most EOIs either pass the threshold or will never pass the threshold. Use the Points indicator (click here)on the NZIS website and then compare the points you get with the recent selections (click here for the news items listing the selections made) made, that will tell you whether you are likely to be immediately selected, need a job offer or would be unlikely to be selected unless the selection criteria shift.
Yes, you will need to prove you have a genuine and stable relationship rather than just produce a marriage certificate (even if you had one).
Not necessarily, see my answer to your first question, if you pass the threshold without job offer points then you donĀ“t need one, if you are short on points it may be necessary and if you are very short of points it would make no difference.

The points indicator has already thrown me.
Is your work, or offer of employment, in any one of New Zealand's:
identified future growth areas?
The future growth list includes creative industries... I am a design technology teacher so could that come under the creative?
I assume this questions includes UK work, as all of the other qus seem to apply to NZ work... but I am not there yet.
