Default Are High Liver Test Levels a Guaranteed Fail with NZ Immigration?

Basically, i had my medical and everything is fine but the Liver tests.
I'm 25, teetotal, never had a drink in my life and they came out too high.

I'm not fat either. Go to gym, but dont have any protein shakes etc. Only thing i do wrong is eat Cadbury's chocolate a lot. I'm quitting that instantly to see if it helps.

I got till end of July to hand in all my paperwork, so i got a few weeks to sort things out - retesting in a couple of weeks

Of all the things i thought i'd be ok on, it was this.

I saw the thread with the other guy who drank a bit and failed, but have any other non-drinkers had a similar experience?

If i hand in my paperwork with high readings for the liver test, is that an instant fail?

You should be fine. Same thing happened with us and some people are just prone to higher levels. As long as their not 6 times higher than they should be (but then you'd be having liver failure) then I wouldn't worry. Your application will go to the MA so the application process will take a little longer but they shouldn't refuse it based on slighly elivated levels.

So what happens when things go to the MA?

Did your levels reach the required level before they accepted you?

The MA takes a look and assess if the high levels could possibly result in you requiring a lot of medical care in the future. It's pretty normal for people's liver tests to be a bit off. Even running up the stairs before a blood test can make your results higher than they would otherwise.

Nope, we had to retest but they were still the same. Do you know how high your levels were?

I'm getting the original results in the post
i'll post them when i have them

I also have a massive fear of blood/needles
I've had 3 blood tests in my life and nearly fainted on each
The doc says this isnt a factor, but i'm mega stressed during the tests

stress should affect your results but it could make your blood pressure a little higher than usual. The MA may ask for a Hep C test but it should just be a one off. If you're scared of needles, you should just send your current results to INZ rather than having your doc do a retest as INZ will ask for a retest anyway and then you'll have to go through the whole thing twice!

Just a thought, but how much exercise do you do at the gym? Overexercising can raise your liver results apparently.

that the retests come back within the normal parameters.

If test results are abnormal the medical examiner should arrange for repeat tests, bearing in mind that Immigration New Zealand is likely to require these.
Here are some links to other threads where people have had abnormal test results but still achieved NZ PR.

Flowerpot.

Ragdolls post -

Delilah63

and also Jan and Neil who know all there is to know about manky livers.

With regard to
the other guy who drank a bit and failed
I'll think you'll find that remark was somewhat tongue in cheek.
He didn't fail . The results simply came back abnormal & retest has shown it was nothing to do with any alcohol. Likelihood that his liver is just like yours might be. A bit on the fatty side.

Sorry BEVS
What i meant to say with regards to the other guy was that he 'failed' his liver tests like me - not failed to get to NZ

If i undertake further tests and they are still higher than required, do i still have a chance of being accepted by immigration?

Yes.

It's just one factor that's taken into account and it would depend amongst other things on how far out of the norm your reading was and what the rest of your health is like.

As your tests results were outside the normal scale , there has to be a retest.

Even if these tests come back outside of the scale you could still be accepted for PR.

The MA could ask for a specialist report . Ultrasound. Liverscan. Note I write could not will.

Please have a read of Jan and Neill's posts about this & the other links I gave you .
These are about people who had abnormal readings , like yourself, and went on to gain PR>

Neil ended up, at great expense, having to have a ultrasound liver scan, as have many others on here I think. The outcome was that the consultant said there was basically nothing wrong that losing a bit of weight wouldn't cure, and his liver was only in the same state as 40% of the UK population

Just think, if we hadn't emigrated, we never would have known that
