Question grounds for older immigration - any experience of this?

Anyone had any experience of this? we have to depend on our daughter, Emma, getting her immigration, and then 'sending' for us [which she wants to do!!] unless you may know if we can [over 60] get in on any other grounds? Nope, we don't have a fortune! so Investor status is out! but is there any way of doing this that you have heard? The delay is the problem, as we hear Emma must be there for a couple of years before she can apply for us to join her.
At present we share a house - not ideal but it gives her the childcare she needs to work, and we are happy to help out. As a divorced mother of 4 she needs all the support she can get - and it is brave to want to immigrate! but her brother is in Oz, and her kiwi sister-in-law's family is in Welly. Any information you have picked up would be really kindly received. many thanks!

Hi, as far as I know she would have to have PR for 3 years before you could apply under the sponsorship visa, assuming the rules don't change inbetween. As your sponsor she would have to take responsibility for you for 24 months, ie, provide your housing etc. and she would be liable to repay the NZ government any irregular cost that may be incurred by you. You can find proper info on this on the NZIS site, look up the actually form and see what sponsorship entails. Hope this helps

Thank you very much for this - worse than we thought... we hope to pay our way with bed and breakfast, so the 'risk' for Emma is not great...but there doesn't seem to be a route for the working parents of an immigrant.
Any other way in, please? we really want to go - not dreams but reality!

It is possible to get in with a work permit which you could renew periodically.
Check the NZ Immigration site for work permit conditions.

Can't think of any other way, other than waiting the 3 years.

Just a thought, would you be able to go via Oz, with your son. I know Kiwi's have a right to live in Oz but I'm not sure whether the arrangement can be used in the opposite direction. If your son has been in Oz long enough, can he not sponsor you to Oz and then go to NZ?

Might be completely wrong on all that but it might be worth a look into.

Good Luck

Thank you - that is a good thought! We probably focussed on NZ and thought that Oz would be the same system - but you are right, and though I haven't got the full picture yet, it looks well worth checking out. Thank you! karma...

You can actually visit her in NZ for 9 months out of every 18months during the 3 years. My mother is pursuing this route while we do our 3 yrs. You can either apply for a 9 month visitor visa before you go OR go on your Brit passport for 6 months and then apply for an extension for 3 months while in NZ. This option has been confirmed to me directly by my case officer at NZIS.

If she is your "centre of gravity" you will be virtually a cert for PR as long as your Medicals & police checks are ok. Check the NZIS site for the table on how to judge if she is your centre of gravity family wise.

Isn't there an age limit for work permits though?

Doesn't seem to be.
Someone recently (about a month ago) wrote about doing just this.
They, or their parents, were over 55 and had a work permit which they had renewed.

Can't find the post though

Just seen your posts in the Oz section.
As you have 4 children, family quota category would not be an option for NZ either.
One way round the problem would be (as you have a son in Australia) to spend 6 months in Oz and 6 months in NZ on holiday visas.

Sounds wonderful

Ah you know, these things happen, and if we didn't have kind people like you to put us right, we could spend a lot more time chasing the rainbow. Really this is a thankyou! and maybe some other ideas will emerge as other people may be wondering about these things too.
