General Work Visa

Re: General Work Visa
Hi and welcome back to the NZ forum.
I'm sorry that you can't apply under the Skilled Migrant Category. Did you not have the necessary quals & work experience as a Hospitality Mananger or something?
So that we don't all repeat ourselves here, I'm going to re-open your original thread from Sept 2009 & move this post onto the end of it. It will help everyone to see the details you have already given to the board and what has been discussed previously.

I know the GWV is only temp, but I have to secure a job offer before I can start with the visa process. It's so long winded and I don't take information in that well as its so confusing.

No worries. We're all like that at some point or other. That's what this place is for. To help each other out so we don't boil our own brains.
To run a pub you would have been sent for training first but I'll come back to that later on.
Who is 'them'.
Now then. Temporary work visas.
As it stands at the moment it may be best for your partner to try for a job offer.
This is because his occupation as a heavy goods vehicle driver is needed here in NZ. This makes it OK for an NZ employer to offer your partner a job.
For your occupation , it isn't needed here at the moment so that makes it hard for an NZ employer to offer you a job.
That's in simple terms so as not to confuse you.
One step at a time.

I have 4 years work experience but to them that's not enough.

Re: General Work Visa
Not really.
If you gain a full time permanent job offer in your skilled occupation then looking at that you should be able to go for PR if you have enough points. You have the years experience which could substitute for quals. You would need to collate your work exp and proof of training of course. Did you run a pub which was brewery owned?

You know your occupation is on the skilled occupation list and you can prove you have managed several pubs plus the training that goes with that.

I'm not saying anything. I'm simply chatting with you about your occupation and your work experience etc.
What I am showing you is this
Is this you ? Only you know. I can't see that for myself.
Can you prove your work experience. If it was via a brewery then I know for a fact that you would have undergone training and placement first. Did you do that ?
Did these pubs include meals? Most do.

Re: General Work Visa
Hi I work in hospo and think the qualification is going to be a problem. Although they say experience can count instead in reality that is very much the exception. I have a guy here who ran a bar in UK with large brewery but has no formal qualifications and the only way he is being allowed to stay is to do a 3 year college course in NZ and work for us part time. This may just be because we are in Nelson but who knows. Not sure any of it is black and white but the formal qualification is def a big plus (made all the difference to me). Sorry I cannot be more helpful but each case is different and I am sure it does depend on where you're heading and the kind of job offer you can get. A helpful possible employer could maybe persuade immigration that your experience is invaluable to them and the experience gained in busy establishments in the UK far out weighs any formal qualification.
