General Info

Hello

I am so glad I found this site!

I am 26 (and 3 months pregnant) and my husband is 33. He is a fabricator/welder and I am unskilled.
We have done a points calculator and can get in with my husband's profession. I am planning on doing some kind of social care course this September to improve my career.
We're taking a HUGE risk because we are desperate to emigate to Australia or New Zealand without ever visiting the place.
Basically our plan has been to have a child in the UK first, where we have the NHS and family to help out.
We have started saving money and want to have at least £10,000 in the bank before we start applying. We were hoping to do that within a year and a half or so.
What we were wondering is is it best to go for a holiday working visa (not sure about with baby) or just go for the residency thing.
Are there any sites which specialises in getting you a job before you actually move?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Also, just from a general point of view, which parts of NZ are best to live? What do you get for your money, etc? How far would £10,000 get us in settling down?

Hi Welshie2000,

Congratulations on the pregnancy:thumbsup: I'm afraid I can't personally answer your questions as we're also in the process of emigration and haven't visited either. You'll get loads of help on here though, everyone is totally brill:thumbsup: We've just submitted our EOI this morning, Clive works in construction and has a confirmed job offer in the Taupo area so fingers crossed - they want him to start on 30th June:eek: and we still have so much to sort out - my padded cell is looming at the mo:rofl:

All the best, I just wanted to say hi really.

Cathy

Hi Guys,
Have you been on the NZIS site? (wwmmigration.govt.nzThis will give you a chance to calculate how many points you can qualify for. If you get over 100 points you can try submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI) to apply for permanent residency. If you do qualify, then you do not need a job offer before you go. Not sure about sites for getting jobs before you go, but have heard of Taylor Associates (google this for the site address) who help UK migrants get jobs (at a cost to you though, not the employer).
Not sure about others, but we've put a bit more aside than £10K. Again on the NZIS site, you can calculate how much getting a visa will cost, and this will perhaps surprise you, as it can cost quite a lot. Then you have shipping costs, flights, temporary accaccommodationtil you find your home (to rent or buy), deposits for renting (if you do) and the list goes on. But hey! It's only money ( )
To get an idea of what your money gets you where try www.realestate.co.nz and bare in mind that Auckland and Wellington are the most expensive, and just the same as anywhere really, the "nice" places are the expensive ones.
Best of luck with your pregnancy! Hope this is of help.

Hi,
You can't do the working holiday visa with a baby, so its a work permit(need a job offer) or residency. Go to www.google.co.nz and type in your husbands job, see what comes up. Try www.seek.co.nz these people leave phone numbers so give them a call and test the water. They won't be really interested if your not ready to go now so keep that quiet.
10,000 is'nt loads, it depends what your used to.
As for risk, lifes a risk. we arrived in November with 3 children, no job etc having sold everything. Good Luck:D
