Hi Sarah, I am sorry that I know nothing specifically about hairdressing in NZ, but to establish further whether it is regarded as a skilled trade and to find out their requirements, you could visit the NZ Immigration website, as follows -

http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migra...killedmigrant/

Hope that helps you to start with before you get some more specific help. Good Luck, LB

Kia Ora from the NZ forum.

My knowledge of Oz Immy is somewhat limited so I will stick to the NZ policy.

Hairdresser ANZSCO 391111 - NZIS register = skill level 4.

Hairdresser is on the list of skilled occupations and that means you are entitled to apply for Permanent Residency in NZ under what is called the Skilled Migrant Category. ( I'll stick in a few links to get you started)

This works on a points system. You can check how many points you think you may gain by using the POINTS INDICATOR on the NZIS website.

As Hairdresser is not on the New Zealand shortage lists you will not be able to claim bonus points for the occupation being in absolute shortage.

With NZIS immigration it is possible to apply for PR as a skilled migrant even if your occupation isn't in shortage here, you just need to have enough points.
The more points the better. 100 points is the minimum.

Job Offer
- which is worth points.

As this occupation is not on the shortage list , then any NZ employer wanting to offer you a job will have to prove that there is no NZ resident or citizen that could take up that job. They will do this using proof of training schemes, adverts etc. The NZ labour dept will also conduct their own labour market test .

Further, as this occupation is not on the shortage list, it might be that NZIS would not grant you PR straight off but would offer you another visa called a Work to Residence. This means that you could still come into NZ to live and work BUT you must find yourself a job in your trade within a set period of time in order to gain Permanent Residency. In other words, they would want proof that you can settle and support yourself and your family.

Uk qualifications

Your UK qualifications need to match NZIS requirements.
Hairdresser is on the ANZSCO list at NZIS qualification register level 4.
