At this moment in time, I'd suggest your eyes look to Christchurch once you understand the NZ rules and regs and building codes.

is it worth me coming over to nz to look for an employer so that i can then apply for a work permit or do i get a working holiday visa and just get short term temp work or is this work limited to certain feilds of work help needed.

I heard last night that up to 1 in every 4 buildings may need to be rebuilt in Christchurch. So if you have any sort of skills in construction I’d imagine New Zealand immigration will rubber stamp your application if it’s all in order.
