Clarrification needed on visas

Hi,

I am a bit confused on the visa front, I am nearly at the end of the ITA process and am awaiting an email to arrange my phone interview. (Skilled migrant catagory)

If I get accepted under the skilled route do I have a year to activate the visa
(can i go to NZ on holiday to activate the visa and come back to the UK to sort a few things out)

Once activated do I have upto two years in which I actually have to go and live in NZ.

I am just looking at time scales etc am I correct or off the mark here.

any advice as this is only part that I cannot get my head arround.

regards

Niki:confused:

Hi Nikki, will try and help. I see that you are a systems librarian so think I'm right insaying as you dont need any form of licemcing it is very possible you will be granted PR (as opposed to WTR) with no job offer. Once granted you have 6 months to get stickers in passports, then a further 12 months in which to get yourself to NZ, Not sure but think you can activate visa within this timescale if you have PR. One thing I am sure of is, if I have got it wrong someone on here will soon correct it
Good luck
Chris.

thanks Chris

So just to get this straight in my head
once the man from del monte say 'Yes' - we have upto 6 months to send in our passports to get the blus stickers.

Then we have another year to go out and live in NZ perminantly or is this time just for activating the visa?

still a little confused!!

Can't find any info on the web pages either to help

Thanks though

Niki

Hi Niki,

If you are granted PR then you have 6m to get the visas in your passport and then 12m from that time to enter NZ. When your PR visa is issued you will also get a 2year returning residents visa in your passport. So you could go over within 12m to activate your residency and leave NZ as long as you return within the time that your 2y RRV is still active. I don't think there would be a problem with that as your RRV would still be in force. If I'm wrong someone will correct me:thumbup:

Only problem would be if they gave you a WTR visa instead of PR as you would only have 3m to get the visas in your passport and another 3m after that to get to NZ. Then you have to find a job within 9m of arriving in NZ and work for 3m before you can convert it to PR. As Alchris says you should get PR and not WTR if you don't need to be registered in your job.
