I about to submit my EOI have enough points 180 and a job offer so hopefully should go through pretty smoothly. Just need to know can I also apply for a temporary work visa/permit so that I can start my job sooner? just incase it takes a while for the other process. Dont think my prospective employer would be prepared to wait a couple months.

Yes you can apply for both and whether it is worth it depends on when your employer wants you to start and whether they would be prepared to wait for PR to come through if necessary.
You can use the same medicals and police checks which does reduce the cost as well:)

Have a check on the NZIS website for approximate timings at the branch you are applying from

I applied for both at the same time and when our ITA was sent out to us our CO cancelled the work permit application and refunded the fee. :thumbup:

Yes, you should do both. No matter how many points you have it'll take months for any PR decision to come through. Our current estimate is 4-8months and ours is very straight forward with job offers and lots of points too.

Wow, what is that est based on and which office is handling it??
