Can you get your citizenship before you leave Australia?

There are concessions allowing spouses of Australian citizens to get it overseas, but these are still new (only in place since 2007) and it would be a lot simpler (and less risky) to get your citizenship onshore.

For the long term, you can become a New Zealand citizen after 5 years in NZ as an Australian citizen. You would keep Australian citizenship.
