Default Bringing my mother with us and health questions

Hi All,

I know i can do the research myself, but I'd much rather learn from a real 'person' about whether my 73 year old mother can immigrate into NZ with myself, my husband and our 2 children as a dependent?

Also she is very worried about the cost of private health care (which she assumed she'd have to have at her age.) I know that health care is subsidised, but to see the GP. Also what about prescription charges. She has a Hiatus hernia and on permanent medication for this.

I also heard that all dentistry is private, is this true for children as well? What roughly is the price for a check up and a filling?

Sorry, banal questions. I also have questions about schools, but i'll save that for another post.

I think your mother would have to apply under the parent category but that would depend on your visa status and it's a long winded process

not sure if she can be put on the same application as yourself or your children?

someone might be along to say if it can be achieved.

Hi
My wife and I have just been granted residency it took us about 2 years in total to get it and our son had to be resident in NZ for 3 years before we could apply. They've recently changed the criteria and it may now be quicker if you're applying under tier 1. (parent has to take with them $500000 or you have to be earning more than $65000 or your mother has I think it's $30000 pension. If you can't hit those criteria than you can still apply under tier 2 but from what I can tell it will be about 10 years before an application will be looked at as currently all the residency quota is being taken up by tier 1 applicants.
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I did eventually find the info about a parent having to bring in enough money. I have yet to broach this with my mum. She is self-supporting, but not sure if she actually has enough! Thanks again.
