Keen I may be...but what I was trying to say is that you don't have to be 'fat' or unfit to have a high BMI. There are many types of body out there, we can't all conform to the racing snake image

No, I really do understand that but from NZIS's POV that is where the risk is, so if someone has a high BMI for justifiable reasons it would justify a medical waiver IMHO (and I assume that happens). From my experience tho most of the general population with a high BMI do have a genuine weight issue with its consequent health risk factors, that is well documented in the general UK population as well as other populations. I don't doubt there are justifiable exceptions but that in no way should obviate asking the question.

it seems a bit of a daft rule as long as you are completely healthy otherwise.

when you have got your weight down the the acceptable, theres nothing to stop you putting it all back on once you live here. they dont have monthly weigh ins to keep track of you...

mmm wheres those steak n cheese pies!!!

Hi, have some experience as my application was initially refused as my BMI was 36.1 at the time of my medical. Got it down to 33.1 within a few weeks and was accepted straight away. The way the medical boffins look at it is that BMI over 35 = significant likelihood of other medical problems and drop under 35 and it goes to possible likelihood of other medical problems. They will refuse visa but will review when the BMI drops. Its just a bloody pain and a delay to getting here!! If I can drop some weight then I'm sure your family member can Good luck, Bevissa

Hi. I had the same problem. My BMI was over 35 but they do give you a chance to get it down. Unfortunately it is a very short time scale (3 months, I think). Happy to say I got my weight off and am now happily settled in New Zealand - 7 months in
