Do you mean a Permanent Residents visa?

If so, then yes , you will also be given a two year returning residents visa also.

Two blue stickers !

Does that mean you can come back and forth for two years?
It would certainly help, if that were the case.

House sales/none sales- elderly relatives etc.
Lots of things that can't be done in a hurry this end but don't want to leave it too late to get things sorted that end.
Am I making sense Bevs, or just chuntering away.

hi

Yes, with your PR you automatically get a Returning Residents Visa, valid for two years.

This means you can come and go as much as you wish for the first 2 years.

At the end of 2 years you have to apply for a Permanent Returning Residents Visa. To qualify you will be expected to have lived in NZ for at least 6 months in EACH of the previous two years. Once you have this, you can come and go as much as you want, for ever.

After 5 years living in NZ you will be able to apply for citizenship, but this is not a requirement. I know many PRs who have lived here for 20, 30 or even 40 years and never become citizens.

As a PR you can do pretty much anything that a citizen can do, including vote . About the only thing I can think of is that NZ PR does not allow you to go live in Australia.

If you have children born overseas (as a PR) they have no status in New Zealand.

Not being eligible for a New Zealand passport is a problem for some people.

If a PR leaves without an indefinite RRV, it may be impossible to return.

Agree.. after the initial 2 years, leaving the country without a Permanent Returning Residents Visa could be a real problem

.....and the moral of the story is , always make sure you have a current RRV or an IRRV in your UK passport should you need to leave NZ at any time, until you gain your NZ passport.
