Default Birth certificate

We are currently preparing my wife's NZ residency application, she was born in India to Brit' Parents & returned to the UK when she was still a baby, her birth certificate only has her name hand written on it by her late Father. She does have various other proof of her identity with her parents name on, i.e. National Registration Identity Card with her first address in the UK dated from 1950.

We are finding it incredibly difficult to get a replacement birth certificate with her name on, the phone at the India High Commission is never answered, our attempt at emailing has resulted in nothing. So our question is, how would INZ view this situation? She has been a UK citizen for 65 years & has always had a UK passport, however on the INZ site it states clearly that they require a birth certificate with a full name on.

Thanks in anticipation.

she won't be the first to have a certificate like that, so sure Immigration will be able to assist in letting you know further documentation they may need. to be honest if you don't have it you can't give it. submit as much information as you can and wait for Immigration to advise.

Try asking the General Register Office. If she was born in India to British parents after Indian independence then the chances are her parents registered her birth with the Foreign Office. You'll want "Birth Certificate (Overseas events)". If they don't find a birth certificate then they'll refund your money (£9.25) so you have nothing to lose in trying.
