apprentiships

Can anyone tell me what apprentiships (electrican/brick layer) are available for teenagers? and what age can they leave school to embark upon one. My mates son wants to start an apprentiship in NZ when they arrive, but do they need qualifications first?

Apprenticeships are available throughout New Zealand for all manner of trades.

NZ Permanent Residency will be needed for starters.

He would need to find an employer within his chosen trade & then sign up to an ITO - training organisation.

As with alot of things knowing people helps. I used to hire apprentices in the UK and the best advice i can get is look smart and act enthusiastic! It's the hardest job in the world picking one sixteen year old out of one hundred! Normal starting age for apprentices is 16 - 17 although we have just had one chap finish his at work and he started at 36!

Good luck and there is a big skill shortage so apprenticeships are out there to be had!
