Default To Apply or not to Apply for PR? How Long Does it Take?

Hi my visa runs out in Jan 2013 - i have been here for 15 months now

I can get 175 points on the Skilled Migration system

So i should get to ITA

But any chance of the whole thing being completed by Jan 2013?

Otherwise i'll need a seperate work visa application to tie me over

175 points is a lot- wont have that many if i applied from the UK down the line so super tempted to put in an EOI today or tomorrow

When is the next pool selection?

I got PR last year after coming over on a work visa in 2010. Had 170 points and was in full time employment.

EOI went in in May 2011, ITA was lodged on 29th June 2011, residency approved Oct 7th 2011.

Hope that helps with your timelines.

ALso if i am granted the first residence visa and spend 195 days in NZ - then leave for the UK for 8 months - then come back to NZ for about 7 months
Do you think i'd get the Residence visa without conditions after 2 years?

1. And do you think i should apply for an NZ Police check right now? - the one from Ministry of Justice in case it takes some time - also it says that NZIS will request a police certificate in the ITA stage - how long will this take?

It states for the Wellington branch - the time for New Zealand police certificates to be processed (these can take up to six to eight weeks).

Is that something Immigration apply for or the Moj one i should apply for?
Should i apply for the UK Police Check now - will take a few weeks to sort out all the paperwork as i need a mate to sign a photo of me - dont know anyone for more than 2 years here!

Anything else i can prempt and try and speed up - what are the possible factors which may lead to a delay?

I guess as i'm in NZ i can go to my GP to get the medical but will wait on that

I am more fussed about the whole police check business - the UK is a bit of hassle as i need to send it to my mates then my parents to pay for as i dont have a cheque

I'm hoping i can get PR by August (fingers crossed)

But i am off overseas from the 29th April to 20th May
Hope that doesnt bugger things up

They sent my passport back within a week or receiving my ITA 9guessing they just copied/checked it and then sent it back) and then requested it again in October after my visa was approved to put the new stickers in.

No need to apply for a NZ police check as Immigration do this for you and I've been told that even if you supply them with one they'll reapply for their own anyway.

Might be an idea to get started on your UK one though as it takes a few weeks to process.

Otherwise its pretty straightforward, good luck!

i take it you dealt with the Auckland Office - i hope the Wellington office are just as efficient!

So in terms of the ITA - what can i sort beforehand? What do they ask for?

A reference from the last UK employer?
UK Police Check?

I guess the other stuff i'll wait for - medical, current NZ work reference
I have the original Birth Certificate, qualifications and payslips and old contracts with me

My current workplace can supply stuff regarding where i work now

I dealt with Hamilton as I was living in Rotorua when I put my application in.

For your ITA you'll need to back up everything you claimed points for. So, as well as medicals and police check you'll need things like proof of employment, proof of any professional registrations/qualifications and work experience if you've claimed points for them.
You could look at getting certified copies made of your birth certificate etc if you want to do it that way but I just sent in the originals with a prepaid courier envelope and they were sent straight back with my passport.

nice one - i'll do that
i claimed 30 points for age
50 for qualifications as Master was only a level 8 on the qualifications list in my subject (so i lost 10 points)
5 points for being outside Auckland
10 for previous work experience (2 years)
and the rest of the points must have come from working in NZ for the last 15 months to take me to 165 in the end - still happy with that

My wife waited nearly two years for her skilled migrant visa, applying through Hamilton office ? maybe it depends on the experience of your case officer...

It won't take that long at all. Your circumstances are entirely different

You are in NZ working in NZ. You are a UK citizen which is not seen in any way as a high risk country ref. immigration.

Nope. Nothing to do with the case officer. I'd hazard a guess she wasn't from the usual suspects. Europe, USA , Canada so the checks simply took much longer.
