Any update on Parent Category Visa?

Hi,

I am a newbie having just joined this group hoping to receive updates regarding the Parent Category Visa when they become available.

I am the mother of twin boys, Kiwis by birth and both living in North Island. They are my only living relatives and they now have families of their own (my only grandchildren). I completed an EOI in 2016 before the closure of the Parent Category but have heard nothing since. As I'm not getting any younger it would be advantageous to know whether to plan for a move to NZ sometime or to plan for my funeral here in the UK!

Does anyone know if the situation has changed at all, or is likely to change in the near future?

First. You have my sympathy for you and your family finding yourself in this land of limbo situation.

The Labour Government here did state they would look at this category with a view to possibly re-opening it & also stated that the decision would be made in the first half of this year......of which there is just two weeks left The problem here being that this is a coalition government and NZ First are opposed

Assorted parties - National/Labour may change their policy on this category coming up to the next general election, Nov 2020 , in order to garner the migrant vote , however at the moment it is something of a stalemate with no agreement in the offing. Like many other countries the welcome mat for immigrants has been less welcoming with many of the visa criteria having been tightened up.
