 Can you wait for PR and do the medicals here ? It is cheaper here.

Going for a work visa and then PR would be cheaper.

am going to look into that now, i was under the impression that you had to have them before you come over but it doesn't seem to be the case.

hi stasia

that is how much it cost me and paul, as he had to have extra blood tests and there is only the 2 of us, we were the same, and we did not realise that you had to pay VAT on them, or else it would have been a lot cheaper

with regards

Does this mean you dont have to have medicals before you leave Uk, have I read that right....can you have them over there on arrival....
Seems like they differ in cost throughout the Uk judging by the posts. Just applying for nursing registration confirmations i have spent 200 quid and that before i pay the NZ registration..... another 425 dollars to pay I think.... this is a costly time... gotta get some more overtime in me thinks.........

Re: £800 for medicals!!

Had our medicals in UK in May this year and it cost over 900 GBP for 2 adults and 2 kids plus 160GBP for the 4 sets of x-rays.

It is cheaper to get them done here so would recommend that if it is an option for you.

Re: £800 for medicals!!

We had them done in Auckland and for a family of 5 (2 ad, 3 ch) we paid approx $800. I have had a Gynae history so I asked for a referral to a Specialist here to do another full check-up and that was $190 inc. smear test too. So for less than £400, we have all had medicals, extra bloods, X-rays and my Specialist trip too!

We are paying £932 for 2 adults and 5 children and that includes x-rays for adults and eldest child , plus 2 extra blood tests for me as i am a fatty! I think that is ok compared to some. Dr Tankel in Salford for anyone who wants to know.

Re: £800 for medicals!!

We decided to do the PR thing once here so arrived on 12 month work visa's.

Recently had our medicals and the cost was as follows....

Doctors -- $85 each (included urine test)
$80 for our kids aged 2 and 6

Bloods -- $80 each

X-rays -- $80 each

As the children do not have to have bloods or x-rays done the total cost to have ours done in New Zealand was $650.

So on current rates somewhere in the region of £240.

Would it not be more sensible to "bite the bullet" & have them done in the UK, before forking out thousands of pounds getting here?
What happens if they find a problem when you are here (which must happen from time to time), from what I can read you have to leave:unsure:

Who told you?

You don't need medicals to get a work visa........

I guess this is a risk and for us it was a chance worth taking as the job out here wanted my wife to start asap so a work visa was the quickest and most suitabe way to do it.

I may be wrong but if a health problem was found, surely it would be possible to just keep applying for a new visa so long as you were going to pay for any medical care needed in the future.

Re: £800 for medicals!!

We are paying 795 pounds (for family of 4), which I thought was quite good, as the closest doctors to where we live wanted 1,100 pounds

Couldn't agree more Mickey. I think they encourage people to get them done before departure for exactly that reason. A bit tragic to get deported after you've sold up in the UK etc etc

I think it depends how long your visa is for as to whether you have to have them done before departure....we certainly had no choice in the matter but I wouldn't have wanted to take that sort of risk anyway.
