Default Young couple moving to calgary - question re: partner working

Hi guys, myself and my girlfriend are moving to calgary as I have been offered a job as an electrician. It would be great if anyone could help us as we're unsure what the score is with her working and things like that can she work under my visa or does she need one of her own. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Lee

Hi, and welcome to BE.

If you've lived together for a year or more (and can prove it), then she'd be deemed to be your 'common-law spouse', and as the spouse of an electrician, she'd get an open work permit for the same duration as your TWP.

HTH, best of luck.

Just out of curiosity, how can anyone prove that they've lived together for a year or more? What sort of documentation would reinforce the claim of a common-law relationship?

Joint tenancy agreement or mortgage, utility bills in both names, joint insurances, wills naming each other as beneficiaries, etc. Basically anything that shows you've been living in a 'marriage like' relationship at the same address.

HTH.
