Default WP has arrived- thank goodness

WP arrived today- thank goodness- I was begiinning to get night sweats about it, having booked flights and shipping etc.

It was mandymoochops getting hers first that threw us- but then we did forget to send copies of pages from passport.

Can start spending even more money now, eg rental poperty, ski condo for christmas etc

WEll, we didn't choose completely the cheapest, but actually it is only £120 more. WE paid more as we wanted a comonay that shipped to Calgary via the East rather than through vancouver. This saves around 2-3 weeks AND means that all the goods don't go throught the humid tropics where the risk of damage is greater. Its aorund £4.5 K for a 20ft

Thats sounds good, I'm awaiting the paperwork for my WP and am starting to look at shipping things. Could you tell me who you used as your plan sounds good as we are moving to Calgary too.

Thanks

Humid tropics?!

I thought the vast majority of shippers got stuff across the Atlantic, then used rail to shift it west?

Our container went to Vancouver by that route, then cleared customs before being hauled by truck 5 hrs east to the BC interior. Surely it can't be cost effective to go via Panama to get to Canada's western provinces?

We had 4 shippers to quote and only one went via the east - all the others went via panama canal and into Vancouver. They all cited expense of rail as the reason and maybe the routes are something that change over time with the fluctuations in currency.

So for us:

Anglo pacific via panama
Pickfords via panama
White and company via panama
Brittania via East (but back in the summer they too went via panama)

Like I said we paid around £120-150 over and above the panama routes

That's interesting - 3yrs ago none of the shipping cos we talked to offered Panama as a route. I guess your assumption about rail costs/currency fluctuations is the reason for it.

If you look at a map - shipping to Calgary via Vancouver via Panama looks like madness, perhaps it is - but its what happens. They are all waiting for the north west passage or whatever its called
