Question Work Visa & contacting Andrew Miller in Vancouver BC

Firstly thanks to PrincessHumla for pointing me in the direction of the "Britishexpats" website. I'm in the process of trying to move to Canada and after some advice!

I have been here on and off fr he last year and spent 6 months here trying to find sponsorship or a work visa; but stuck in th middle of a catch 22 situaton. I have soe very desirable skills andmet with a number of companies that say when I have my landed immigrant status give them a ring, howeve it is now that I need the help! Is there a way of getting a work visa any other way?

In addition I have my reference from immigration for my perm residency, but not heard anything for sometime - does anyone know the procedural process and how I speak to a human being to establish where I am in the process.

Thanks for your help in advance
Andy

PS PrincessHumla suggested speaking with Andrew Miller about my application etc, what is the best way to get hold of him ...?

Hello, Andrew, and welcome to the BE forum.

You can reach Andrew Miller at:
But I recommend that you read the Wiki article called Beginner's Guide to Canadian Immigration.

I also recommend that you read these Wiki articles:
The thing that Andrew Miller can't do for you is find you a job. There are links to job hunting articles in the Beginner's Guide to which I gave you a link, above.

It would help to know what your occupation is. Then we'd be able to tell if your occupation is listed as one that is "under pressure" in Alberta. If your occupation is listed as such, it should be a bit easier for a prospective employer to get a Labour Market Opinion and for you to apply for a temporary work permit. The fact that employers have told you to get back to them when you have permanent resident status suggests that there may not be a labour shortage in your specific field. However, we won't be able to comment on that until we know what your occupation is.

Still, I hope the above has been helpful. Grab your favourite beverage, and settle in for a long reading session.

By this I assume you mean you have had an Acknowledgment of Receipt for submitting a Simplified Skilled Worker Application, presumably to London?? Or did you submit a full application before Sept 06?

Hmm, well, as you read up through the Wiki, you will discover that you are unlikely to hear from CHC for some considerable time....your AOR should give you an indication.....

If you look at CIC's webpage, they have average processing times for cases at the moment, obviously, this will be retrospective for cases completed. But you will get the idea....

In direct answer to your question I am in integration specialist working on traditional EDI/EAI and SAP integration for the last 6 years (Yes a techie) I believe this is a saught after commodity in Calgary; but as to whether there is a shortage I'm not sure

i realised I didn't say exactly what I was trying to say....once you have your AOR, you don't hear from CHC again until they start to process your application or need updated info so it's a long wait. Getting a job is the best way to get a visa more quickly, as I'm sure you know.
