Work Permit/Visa Types

Hi,

Sorry for my ignorance but when planning the exit which is the easiest method.

Our plan is to move to Edmonton working in the IT sector (job fairly flexible).

So, is there such a thing as a “generic work permit/visa” or do we need to get a company to sponsor us or if full residency the only way?

Cheers,

Neil

There is no such thing as "generic work permit".

You need to have job offer with positive Labour Market Opinion approved by HRSDC before applying for work permit. There are some jobs that are covered by a blanket, national LMO, but not too many.

You should start your research here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.html

and ask questions in this forum after you are familiar with the above.

Of course Canadian citizens and PR don't need any work permits.
