Work permit renewal & visa
Hi Folks,
I am a citizen of India currently working in Canada. My work permit is expiring in January and I have applied for renewal. I am pretty sure I will get it in time, but I am worried about an upcoming business trip to Europe. How do I get my visa stamped for re-entry if I leave Canada? Do I have to pay any more fees other than the $150 that I already paid for the work permit renewal? I would appreciate any answers or experiences in this regard. Thanks in advance Suresh |
Re: Work permit renewal & visa
If your visa has expired, as opposed to your work permit which is different,
then you can apply for a new one at a visa office overseas. You should have no problems in getting it if you have prrof that you have a valid work permit. -- Jim Humphries, former visa officer "Suresh Krishnan" <[email protected]> wrote in message news:[email protected]... > Hi Folks, > I am a citizen of India currently working in Canada. Re: Work permit renewal & visa
Be careful on the work permit side. My work permit expired in
October, and I had applied for renewal 30 days in advance. The expiry date for my existing work permit came & went. I called CIC, and they advised me they were running very late, and that it would be at least 60 days before I'd receive my renewal. This had a couple of consequences: 1. My OHIP expired at the end of October, so I was without coverage until my work permit arrived in late November. 2. I had a business trip to the States in October, and feared being held up at Immigration on my return. CIC could give no suggestions (I asked). So . . . I went on the trip (visa wasn't an issue, as I'm a US citizen), and on my return, I 'fessed up to the immigration officer that my work permit had expired, I'd applied for a renewal, but it hadn't come yet. I had copies of my submission, which I offered to the immigration officer, but he responded "I believe you," and waived me through. Granted, it might have helped that I'm a waspy-looking, middle aged female. M. Re: Work permit renewal & visa
Hi Margaret,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I cannot enter Canada without a visa(unlike you). I did apply about 70 days before the expiry date. But I am not sure if I will get it in time. Hi Jim, Thanks. The problem is that I am travelling to Sweden and there is no visa office there :-( . Is it possible to get the visa at Dorval airport if I have a valid work permit? If you are in Sweden, you would apply to London. PMM |
