Work permit question
 

Hi:)

We received a positive LMO on 11th january, and then our Work and Study permit authorisation on 28th Feb:D We are flying into Halifax on April 23rd (Hurrah!)

My husband's job is a permanent position, and we intend to apply for PR through the NSNP as soon as we arrive.

My question is, how long will the work permit be valid for?
Will it be for just one year? (as per the LMO) Or do we ask at Immigration on arrival, for say 2 years as the job is a perm. position? Do you think that we may need a letter from the company asking for a 2 year permit?
Okay I know that was actually 4 questions!!;)
It would be much better for us if the work permit was valid for longer than one year to allow the PR process to (hopefully) be completed, and so that we can apply for a mortgage.
Anyone help?

Only as long as the LMO. You would need to re-apply for extension to WP at least 6 weeks prior to its expiry. BTW you can apply and get a mortgage on a WP.

Thanks, it is just that I am sure that I read somewhere, that the work permit needed to valid for longer than a year to be get a mortgage.
As by the time we get to the bank/broker, the work permit will already be a week or so into the year!! Or am I just making this more difficult than it needs to be!
We are REALLY hoping to buy a house ASAP, rather that have to rent.

Not sure about that unfortunately re mortgage v expiry on WP.

We got a mortgage with a 1 year work permit. It will probably limit your choices but if you find a good mortgage broker(we used one at our local Remax office) you'll find something reasonable. We went with a private mortgage company and are probably paying .25-.5 % over the going rate. Our biggest problem was actually the 6 month probation period the company put in my husbands contract.
