Default Work Permit Process

Dear all

I'd really appreciate some advice. I have applied for PR under the skilled worker category but, following advice that the wait would take forever, my wife and I are flying out to Vancouver on Monday and I have managed to get a couple of job interviews.

I understand that with a job offer, it is possible to get a work permit in around 8 months. However, I am guessing that my potential employers will know nothing about the immigration process (I have not mentioned that I don't have a work permit, although they know I'm flying over from England), and I would like to be able to reassure them that I know how the process works, and that it's not so onerous.

The trouble is, I have no clue! I have heard about something called an LMO, but have no idea what one is, or how you get one, and what happens next, how long etc. Could someone please walk me through the process, or point me to a link that explains it all??

Many thanks

Default Re: Work Permit Process

In good circumstances (job on Occupations Under Pressure list and well prepared/documented LMO application) one may have Labour Market Opinion (LMO) in Vancouver within 10 to 14 or so weeks, sometimes sooner. Then application for work permit in CHC London may take 2 to 3+ months, or work permit can be obtained at the border when coming to Canada (if no medicals needed). So, you may be working in Canada in about 4 months if all works out.

If employer and job qualify for BC PNP then all can be achieved even faster.
