Question Work Permit with medical

Has anyone got an approx idea of how long this will take? I'm trying to get a rough idea of when I'll be able to hand my notice in (not that I'm desperate to do this) and when we can think about moving.

I've got to wait another 4 weeks approx for my eligibility for registration, then I'm guessing about 12-14 wks for LMO but what should I guess for WP. I can only imagine having the medical will hold it up and I'll be working in Health so will have to have one. Will OH need medical for open WP?

Thanks Sharon

The medcial will probably add about a month after you have it for the results to be posted. OH will not need medical, but will be restricted from jobs in health care/child care/education and food service.

Have you already applied for PR. We had (AOR Aug 05) when we came over on WP in Jan 07. We had only been here 2 weeks when the CHC got in touch for up-to-date info for our PR.

Since then we have undergone our medicals, x-rays etc and hope to hear back within the next few months.

I am sure we will have to leave Canada and come back through immigration to validate our PR though.

Have applied via SW route for PR last year, but got job offer in April. Have to get eligibility to register from college of nursing before LMO can be requested, then WP. I believe I have to have the medical for the WP.

Thats interesting, we have a similar timescale to you.

AOR May '06. Just applied for work permit.

Would be good to compare notes on how quickly (sorry slowly) it all happens now.

Yes-can-do sounds really lucky it all happened so fast but has a much earlier AOR. Cannot imagine it happening that fast for us.

Hi Sharon,
Just a quick note to add, the work permit application pack states that a medical examination "may add over 3 months to the processing of your application", I have to have one as well, so here's waiting.........

Hope this helps

My Lmo took 6 days as they process healthcare pretty quick as the health care is already registered with service canada so they get rushed thro.
Got LMO on 28th Feb,
Applied WP 9th Mar
Med request around 6th May
Med done 17th May
WP confirmation 4th June

Then mad rush to pack up house and everything else to get out here 3 weeks before job starts to look for rental.
Landed on Sun with the house still on the market back home. Worth it though if only for the wall to wall sunshine, the webbing is starting to go from between my toes at last
