work permit application and PR application linked?
I have just had my medical to go with my work permit application so that I will be able to work in a hospital. I expect that to take around 6 weeks to arrive. We also have a PR application in process, this is at the 90 day letter stage. My question is whether there is a link between all the application types and so will the PR people in London know about my medical in Canada, (WP application through Vegreville)?
My student permit and current work permit have the same client ID number but this is of course different to the PR file number. It would be so so nice if the medical I have just had would "do" for the PR application but I have a feeling that even if they wrote next week to tell us to have medicals for PR I would have to go back to the same Dr and have the same exam all over again. Is it worth telling London or will they "know" somehow, and even if they did would it make a difference? thanks in advance |
Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Unfortunately medicals done for ant temporary permits are different and you will have to undergo separate medicals for PR.

Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Hi Andrew
My husband and I just applied for our Permanent Residence and Work Permit on March the 2nd and we are currently waiting to get a request for a medical as i am going to work in Healthcare. Does this mean that the medical we have to get for the work permit will not count towards our permanent residence application? We assumed my husband would also get his medical request at this stage but as he has only applied for an spousal open permit will his medical only be required at a later stage in connection with the residence application?? We have applied to london from within the UK. Vicki |

Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Nobody cares what doctor says, sorry.
Medical tests may be the same but are assessed differently by medical officers. For example with work permits the extensive demand is not a factor at all, while in PR cases it is a crucial factor. |

Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Hi Andrew
So what your saying is that the medicals are assessed differently for permanent residency and work permit applications. Thats not the same as having to have two completely different medicals for each application. The application process is intense but surely it can't be so stupid as to ask people to pay for the same medical twice!! Will my spouse, who is not going to work in healthcare, also need a medical for an open work permit, or will it just be me? Thanks Vicki:confused: |
Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Unfortunately each process is separate and requires separate medicals.

Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
That is absolutely ridiculous. Nevermind, its just another hurdle in a long, long process. How about my husbands medical-any ideas?? Thanks

Hi Andrew
I received my medical request in the post today and there is no request for my husband to get a medical. Do you know if it is normal to not need a medical for an open work permit?? Thanks Alan |

Thanks Alan I thought that only folks working with kids or in healthcare needed a medical. Unless OH is in that field also he shouldn't need med jo |

Thanks Alan forgot to say well done getting med request. Hopefully i should get mine next week then but maybe Easter break will cock that up. If you got your request today then Tanram should have got her wp last week as they were a week in front of you. No sense in dates at cic then? jo |
Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Yeah i know!!!
It seems that there is no kind of standard response times. We applied on 02 march and got response today (the letter was dated 30th March) so that is faster than i thought, even though it seemed to be taking forever. Hopefully a sign of things to come!!! Vicki |
Re: work permit application and PR application linked?
Hi Vicki
If he doesn't have a medical, the work permit will state on it that he can't work in 1)child care 2) primary or secondary education or 3) health services filed occupations. Or at least, thats what mine said, so I assume thats standard. Karen |
