Default work experience

Hi everybody. A friend of mine has been working currently as a cooker for
3.5 years now. But also in parallel he was continuing a 2year cooking school
which he will finish this year.
Question: Can these years be used like work experience or he must have at
least one year experience after he receives the diploma. Thanks.

These years can certainly be used as part of his experience and taken into consideration by visa officer. If your friend wishes to establish in Canada, he may obtain a free online assessment of his eligibility there:
