Default Work eligible for points

We have submitted our application to London CHC and I am looking for a way to boost our points total a bit. I do not have a job offer in place but would like a bit of info as to what is deemed to be an acceptable job offer to gain extra points.

I am hoping to visit Canada in October and I was hoping to contact a few potential employers with a view to finding work.

The question is:

Is it acceptable to be offered work such as a hospital porter, shop assistant or work in McDonalds as a qualification to gain employment points. I guess not, but can anyone confirm this for me.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the job offer has to be made through a company's Human Resources department and that the job should be one that a Canadian citizen would not normally be able to undertake.

Can anyone expand on this a bit?

In order to try and comply with my understanding of the requirements I intend to try the following:

I am a UK qualified financial adviser and accept that my UK qualifications are not acceptable in Canada. As I understand the situation, even if I gain the Canadian equivalent qualification I am unlikely to be offered a job as I do not have any Canadian financial services experience. Also, by applying for work down this route I would not be doing a job that a Canadian citizen could not reasonably be expected to perform.

My thoughts are to apply for work with a firm of financial advisers and offer advice exclusively to UK ex-pats who still have pension and investment policies in the UK. I believe that this type of specialist advice could only be given by a UK trained professional, thus complying with my understanding of the work requirements. The main problem I can envisage would be that many Financial advisers are usually independent or part of small companies that do not employ a Human resources department. Under the circumstances, would I be offered a dispensation for having a HR endorsed offer of employment.

Any advice on these points would be gratefully received. Alternatively can anyone offer any other advice that may be useful to find me work and/or boost our points value.

I look forward to hearing your comments.

Jobs you mentioned won't be acceptable. You need to obtain job offer in skilled occupation in line with your qualifications and experience. Job offer must state that you will be hired after you become a Canadian PR - thus no need to prove that no Canadian can be found. If position requires licensing or registration then job offer should also state thet you will be hired after obtaining such.
