Default Will US Citizen lose Citizenship after gain Canadian PR Status?

My wife is an US Citizen (by naturalized) and I am a Canadian Citizen (by
naturalized)

She will come to Canada to join me by apply for Canadian PR status. I am the sponsor.

Q: Once she got her Canadian PR status. Will she lose her US Citizenship? Can she go
back to US for visit use her US Passport? I know US side will ask many questions
at the border.. since I am Canadian Citizen and she is US Citizen!

8-(

Let's say.. we want to move back to US in the future...

R: Can I go with her to live in US by apply for US green card while staying in
Canada? Since she is US Citizen.. she can apply me right?

Thanks!

Hi:

Canada recognizes dual citizenship. Your wife can use her US passport to
enter the US.

Your wife will have to Petition for your US permanent residency. She can apply for
you at any time.

Correction - his wife must always enter US as US citizen, there is no choice if
she is one.

Unless she commited some kind of immigration fraud, or she is a war criminal her
citizenship is permanent. So long as she does not officially "renounce" US
citizenship, it stays with her for life

she won't lose her citizenship. As far as USA or Canada are concerned you can hold
multiple citizenships and they wont mind (although im not sur ethe US would be
impressed if you went and got Cuban citizenship or something hehe). as for the green
card issue, i have no idea.

No she will not lose her US citizenship. Thousands of people are US-Canadian dual
citizens. As for the border, as long as both of you live in Canada, you will not be
asked questions BUT if she should moves back to the USA you probably will not be
permitted to cross the border with her as a tourist (without visa) because you have
no status in the USA. This was the situation with me (US citizen) and my wife
(Canadian) until she got her green card here. You and she can still come over the
border but you will have to do so separately.

Yes, you can but you do not want to do so until you plan to move to the USA soon
because if you get your green card and remain in residence outside the USA, the INS
may find that you have abandoned your residency.

No. Becoming a non-citizen permanent resident of another country will =not= cause
loss of one's US citizenship.

(It is also true that becoming a =citizen= of another country will also normally not
cause loss of US citizenship -- but that is a separate question, and not the one
Andy asked.)

At one time, BTW, a naturalized US citizen could risk loss of US citizenship by
moving permanently abroad and living for an extended period in another country or
countries (regardless of whether or not he/she became a citizen of another country).
However, this portion of the law was declared unconstitutional and was struck down by
the US Supreme Court in 1964 (Schneider v. Rusk).

There was also once a provision that said a new US citizen who abandoned his/her US
residence shortly after naturalization could lose US citizenship. Congress repealed
this provision in 1994.
