Default WHV Application

Following the advice I have received on this forum, I am considering going down the WHV route and hopefully securing a permanent job. I have a few questions if any experienced members can answer;

- How long does the visa usually take to come though?
- Is it correct that you can only apply for the visa this month (January)? and there is a quota on visas issued?

thanks.

Used to be approx 6-8 weeks, but do remember that things have changed this year, so nobody will know how the new system will work and whether or not processing times will be different from in the past.

Yes, and you'll need to be quick. Non-student WHV's have all gone very quickly in the past, and this year they are expected to go even quicker as they are no longer seperated in to 'non-student' and 'student' categories.

I believe you now also need proof of funds and a police check before you can apply, so you'll need to get the police check sorted asap if you want to apply - do check that though as I'm not that familiar with the changes.

Good luck.

thanks, is it possible to apply this year and if I am successful and do not use it apply next year for another one? Reason being I am 30 this April and next April would be my last chance on current rules.

Yes you can do that under the new rules.

I just wish we had an idea of when they are planning to launch this thing.
