thanks everyone - but just an update for you all. The letter from the visa office asking for our passports was actually dated 30th January!!!!!! Not sure where the cock up occurred just yet - but our attorney didn't get a faxed copy until late yesterday. Still digging to see who dropped the ball. So glad I chased it up though, otherwise we could have been put in the 'non responding' bin!!!
