Who has had to pick up there PR Cards???

Who has had to pick up there PR Cards???
Got a letter about replacement PR cards applied for back in April saying they are ready for collection and must attend an appointment to pick them up in person..not now but in January on a set day at a set time..what the hell is this about everbody seems to have theirs sent in the post???

Haven't got this far yet, so this is based on looking at the CIC website.
I think the inital PR card (ie the one you now get when you land) is sent by post, but replacement ones (including replacing an expired card) have to be picked up in person. I think you also need to take along the originals of any supporting documents and the old PR card assuming you still have it.

Only new landed immigrants have it mailed to them as the process of checking your identity in person was already done by immigration when they landed. With replacement cards; they still need in person identification, but this time you haven't just gone through immigration, so you need to go to the office.
