Default When to apply for Visa?

Hi Everyone

Just found this website and it looks so helpful.

We are currently in the process of (hopefully!) starting a move to Canada. Our house is on the market etc. We have always wanted to live there after visiting years ago.

I have a question re the Skilled Worker Visa.... we expect the new list of professions to come out roughly around Sunday (if it's exactly 12 months after the latest one the new one is published). My husband was on it year before last but not this last 12 months.

Now we have a trip planned over there at the end of August and while we are 99% certain the move is what we want - part of the holiday is to make sure we are 100% certain.

Now if we leave it will we get back from hols to apply for the visa (Second week in Sept) do you think it's possible his profession will get capped already? ie do you have to be on the ball and get your application in asap once the list is out or can you do it a couple/few months later???

Thanks everyone
xx

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

Got to be honest, I don't see the list changing much (if at all) as it's only been in effect a year, so don't count on your husband's job being put back on it. What does he do?

But re: your question, a couple of occupations were full by the beginning of Sept last year, so it is possible that it could have reached the quota by then if it's one of the more popular ones. Could you not apply prior to that and then if you change your mind in Sept just pull your application and get your fees back (as long as they haven't started processing it, which they won't after only a month or so, you could get a refund)?

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

He's an IT/Business Process Manager type of person (err so technical I don't actually know exactly what it is he does).

I didn't realise you could get your fees back after applying so that's really good to know. Thanks

Another question - do you have to have your medicals and English test before the app goes in or after it's been approved? Ta Muchly!

You have to send your IELTS results in with the application package, but wait for your med requests to have your medical.

Hate to say it though, but really don't count on IT Managers being put back on the list, there just isn't the same demand for IT related occupations anymore. There also used to be a special work permit program for IT peeps but that was also cancelled last Sept, showing that there just isn't a need for them at the moment. If it had been reinstated that it might have given hope that 0213 would be put back on the list, but it hasn't so I just can't see it happening.

Sorry, but hope you can find another way out there.

No, and you wouldn't either - it's only the principal applicant that has to take it.

Thanks - I am liking this website. Instant answers...

Now while you are in the hotspot - do we both have to have medicals and what is involved in that?

Thanks!

If your application is accepted for processing only then will you get a medical request. The tests are in the DMP Handbook see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/resourc...section-11.asp chapter 11

Phew, the pressure, it's like being on Mastermind!

Yes, you both have to have medicals, together with your son. Will be approx £800 or so for the three of you, and is less onerous than it sounds. Questionnaire about your medical history, urine test, chest x-ray, blood test, etc. Less stuff for your son to do. If you do a quick search you'll find other threads about people's medical experiences which will tell you in more detail.

HTH.

"I've started so I'll finish"

I'll have a look at all the link and look for other threads - and probably come back with a load more questions!

Thanks for all your help! It's been great!
