When to apply for PR?

Wondering whether to start applying now or waiting until April (read on as to why!)

Here's my history:

- age 50
- on a TWP until November 2018 which needed an LMIA
- TWP many years ago (2003-2005) spending total of 20 months as a worker in Canada
- seem to recall that in the past, having two years work experience in Canada boosted your score/chances?

If I wait to gain those extra four months to take me to two years (that's April!), it gives me 24 months of work experience in Canada. If that enhances my chances, no reason I can't wait. If it makes not a jot of difference I could start sooner, but I'm not in a rush at this stage.

Thoughts?

Hi to qualify for the Canadian Experience Class you need a minimum of 12 months Canadian Work exp in a skilled occupation in the three years before you apply.

Who can apply – Canadian Experience Class

You may qualify under the Federal Skilled Worker program and/or you can investigate AINP (I have no idea which Alberta PNP streams are closed or open atm or if you meet/will meet the eligibility though).

Very interesting, thank you.

So here's the next question then. Given that my age gets me no points and having just read your link that the CEC also saves me the time and cost of getting my UK degree validated, is there an experienced viewpoint of what you would choose to do in my case: apply EE or simply wait until November for the CEC 12 month criteria and get my language skills tested in the meantime?

Again, time doesn't concern me currently either way, just making an efficient decision.

You need points and you won't get points for education if you don't have your qualifications evaluated (unless they're Canadian).

Have you checked to see if you definitely qualify now as a FSW? What are you scoring on the CRS? Is it enough to get you an invite to apply for PR now, or do you need to wait?

Leaving it to November might be risky unless you have to, if you don't get an invite then you're not leaving yourself a lot of time before your TWP would expire to sort something else out. A year might sound like ages, but it'll go by in a flash, particularly if you have to look at another visa route that takes longer.
