Default What happens if a PR application is refused

Does anybody know if for some reason a PR application is denied, and the applicant is already resident on a TWP, does this then cancel that TWP or would the applicant be able to remain until that expires?
If it does cancel the current visa how long would the applicant have to leave Canada?
Trying to make plans in advance when you have no idea if you are being allowed to stay (or even when you will find out ) is so hard.

The work permit would still be valid until its expiry date. Where applicable there is the option to extend the work permit or change status again depending on the circumstances. If a removal order is issued or CIC give you a letter stating you must now leave the country then a person normally has 30 days to leave Canada.
On expiry of the work permit date then its immediate if no extension applied for.

Hi,

I'm not 100% sure, but if your PR application is refused, that's because CIC states that you don't meet the requirements for PR. It doesn't mean anything regarding your actual status. To be confirmed by senior forum members.

And if it were the case, imagine all the people in your case, filing for PR and risking their actual status for it ? That wouldn't make sense.

OK, thanks both for the quick response.
Our Condo lease is just about to run out and trying to make new arrangements is ramping up the stress/worry levels.

PR status is independent of work visa status, as FL states.

If you have AOR you can also apply for a BOWP.

If not, then, status timeline is as per your work visa eligibiity. Options after are an extension (per FL) or visitor status maybe.

I'm sure it will come through soon, hang tight! *fingers crossed*

Thankyou. We still have just over a year left on the current WP - hopefully by then we will know.
