I'm looking into the LMIA route also. I've gone through various job sites but don't seem to get any reply from anyone. Will have to keep trying and hopefully something will turn up.

Have you had a read of the job hunting section of the wiki? You will likely need to network and to be here and shake hands, meet and greet and go around potential employers. Emails - particularly those sent from overseas - just don't work unless you have a very in demand profession.

Hi Siouxie,

Yes, I've read through majority of the stuff about 'Amercanizing' the grammar and simplifying the Resume's.

I made three trips over the past 8 years. The first two were holidays and the last on business. I made a wealth of contacts and have many friends and family in and around Vancouver. Networking was relatively easy!

I think I a little 'grumpy' waiting for things to happen without any control over them. I'm ranked quite high in the EE pool but just missed the mark twice this month. The options I have to push my score back upto 445 is for my wife to retake her IELTS and improve the score (something she clearly does not want to do!). The other option is sponsorship. I'm lucky to have brother in law working as a dentist in Vancouver and he has offered to sponsor us but I would rather get there on my own merits if possible. I think I will give it until November or December. If the CRS score does not drop then I think I will take the easy route!

I've only just put in my profile so it is barely a few weeks old. Patience pays so, I will have to wait it out.

What is the 'easy route'?
As family, there is not a way for a brother in-law to sponsor you. Even if he is your wife's brother, he could not sponsor her either, unless he has no other living relatives in Canada or who are Canadian or PR living overseas.

If he is considering offering you a job, he has to try and hire Canadian or PR first. You would aslo have to be qualified and have the experience to do the job. This is not going through the motions, ESDC will look for a concerted effort to hire in Canada. They also assess how hard the employer tried to hire Canadian. There are strict rules.
If you are a specialist dentist, there may have more chance.

Yep, he's got no other relatives in Canada.

Hasn't he got his wife? Because he's married, I'm pretty sure he is not able to sponsor you or anyone else. Others will know more, but I'm pretty sure this is not an "easy route" that is open to you.

I've got an agent dealing with my case. I can always ask them and see what other options are available if the EE route proves unsuccessful.

However even if he has no other relatives in Canada, he is not a blood relative. Family sponsorship is for direct family, I don't believe 'in laws' count. An agent can fill in the forms, but cannot make ones circumstances any different or get a different result to doing it oneself. They get no special concessions from CIC.

From what you are saying we will have to stick with the EE route then?

It's not Americanizing - please... Canada uses ENGLISH spelling and grammar, in the main. There's a specific format for Canadian Resume's - and for the accompanying cover letter.. do read up on it as it's one of the areas where non-Canadians fall down. There's a lot of software used for picking out candidates - using key words from the job description, etc., for example. You need to network with people who are in the same industry as yourself primarily. Arrange to meet for a coffee to discuss the current whatevers - not asking about a job, per se - LinkedIn is also used a lot here - so perhaps make sure that your profile is up to date and reflects your current capabilities. Did you also read about how to apply for jobs and what not to do? It's really worth reading through them all, even if it takes a while.

Your brother in law cannot sponsor you nor will he ever be able to do so, so please don't waste your money paying an immigration consultant to try and find out about it!

Express Entry, Provincial Nomination or a TWP to gain Canadian experience and improve your points, are your best routes. I concur with what Aviator said - your brother in law would have to prove that there is no Canadian Citizen nor Permanent Resident in the whole of Canada able and willing to take the job - and that you have qualifications and experience in excess of any applicant. It's not a simple thing.. you can read more about LMIA's here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/helpcen...r.asp?qnum=163

Do look at the Atlantic Provinces Pilot Project (and BC PNP) - that may at least get you here, even if it's not where you would ultimately want to be.. for the sake of half a dozen years of living in a Province that is not your 1st choice may well be worth it. I can't find anywhere where you have mentioned your profession - so perhaps give more info and people might be able to guide you on good places to look ..

The other option - perhaps - could be a Start Up Visa, if you've a mind to start your own business and could get the backing of a designated body?

Hi Siouxie,

Thanks for the info.

I've been looking through the BC PNP route for a few weeks. I'm due to update me CV/Resume this week. I will get straight onto that and the LMIA procedure.

I will look into the start-up visa also. I didn't really want to start up a business yet as I've been running several in the UK and want less headache and more time with my family. I know its an option so will definitely look into that route.

I think the best method approach at the moment is is go through the IELTS and improve my wife's score. I had top results and cannot gain anymore points from that. The wife can improve more so it will give us an extra 6 points if she can get 7 bands or above across the board. Current points are CRS 439. Looking at the draws I am borderline so hopefully they will drop but we cannot really be sure what will happen.

The agent I'm using is for the EE route at the moment. Just simply not had the time to go through all the work required so employed them to jump through all the hoops. I've a couple of friends who are immigration lawyers in Vancouver so they are also overseeing my case (If I can get as much free advise as possible, then I will!).

My NOC is 1122-Professional occupations in business management consulting.

What hoops? It's a simple ONLINE process. YOU are the one who has to provide the information, the certifications (ECA), IELTS, References, then police certificates, medical, proof of funds etc., there's really nothing that you need an Immigration Consultant for! It's not like the old days of wading through endless forms that needed filling in by hand..and even then, you still had to provide the backing documentation.

Why pay out good money that you could utilise for a move over? Read over the guidelines etc., for EE... it's much simpler than you seem to think.

At the beginning of the process I was rather confused with looking at all the options available and which was the best way forward. It was before I came across this forum so I was already stuck into the loop with the agent. I agree I could have utilised the money better!

Hey, you are where you are! Hopefully you can claw those few extra points from your wife's IELTS. There's always hope if you really want something. It sounds like you're tantalizingly close to the magic number.
