Default Warning about Medical costs - New Brunswick

I had my immigration medical yesterday in Fredericton as arranged a week ago. Doctor Stuart and her team were excellent - welcoming and reassuring - professional but very friendly - could not fault them and at $130 thought I had a bargain. Then I went to the hospital in Fredericton for the blood tests and chest X ray. The doctor's receptionist had warned me it would be about $270 for the tests and x rays. Imagine my shock when presented with a bill for $538 !!! The costs have been increased recently and no-one bothered to tell the doctors who send people there for the tests.
Of course I complained but what can you do ??
I have notified the doctor of the new charges at the hospital - so you have been warned if you plan to have your medicals there.

No idea what the charge is now but I had mine done in Moncton, NB in 2007 and blood tests/X-Rays were $160 at the hospital.

Hard to believe it's gone up so much across the board in NB so maybe it was just that hospital or just Fredericton?

When we recently went for our medicals in Fredericton the doctor told us that the x-ray/blood work cost was $538 and it only went up in April. BUT they give you free parking at the hospital, kinda expensive parking

Couldn't fault them though they were really quick (maybe that's because they knew we weren't paying for the parking though)!!!

we had medicals at $175 each then chest xray at $65 each and lab tests at $65 each, so around the same price I think as NB, this was in Vancouver

Canadian prices do seem incredibly cheap compared with the UK's prices. I'm just about to cough up GBP278 for mine. I can only surmise that the world leading pay given to GPs by British tax payers explains their high labour fees.

Starting salary for a salaried, full-time GP is about £50K.

GPs are like footballers....a select few whom we hear about earn a fortune, the rest do not.....

Holy man thats exspensive.

In BC I paid 170 and that included everything.

140 for the doctor exam and blood work, and 30 dollars for the X-ray.

But I didn't have to go to a hospital for any of it, just an X-ray lab.
