Visitor extension, PR application

Visitor extension, PR application
Ok this is a long one, hopefully somebody can help.
I'm currently here on iec visa which expires March 27th 2018.
From April I am able to Apply for common law PR,
My son arrived here sept 4th 2016 and his visitor visa expires march 4th 2017, I am currently filling in the extension online. However I'm worried it will be denied. What should I send in with the visitor extension? My sons father is in the UK and has a letter witnessed by a solicitor saying he gives my son permission to relocate to Canada with me. Also If refused once I apply for PR is he covered? Sorry for all the questions I'm just slightly stressed as pregnant, and the idea of our family being split up is scary.
