Default visa in passport -not activated yet/passport renewal

Hi,

This is our senario: we obtained visas in our passports last year. we have not landed yet, was hoping too in October but circumstances were against us. We now plan to land in April/ May 2010 Visa expiry is May 2010(med date). Our main problem now is two of the childrens passports run out in June 2010! We are concerned about the six months to run problem at immigration, is it a straight forward passport renewal and take along old passport with visa in it when we land? or can we get away with not renewing them and doing it when we return from the trip?

Advise much appreciated.

Adele

You don't need to renew the passport, there is no "6 month rule" for landing.

Really, so we are ok to land and stop for 2 week holiday then renew the passport on our return? I cant find anything on the paperwork or website to advise on this. If thats the case brilliant thanks for your help.

PMM is, as usual, entirely correct. The 6 month validity rule refers only to temporary residence visas.

There is no "6 month validity rule" in Canada. Even for tourists, passport must only be valid for period of intended stay. Canada is not one of the countries that refuse to accept passports with less than 6 months remaining.
