Default A vent re CBSA/CIC mistakes!!!

I'm so tired of other people's mistakes!! It seems that this last bit of our PR journey is just full of them!

So, we received our COPR at the very last minute ( complete with photos on wrong forms and OH being kids dependant!!!)- and drove 2 hours to flagpole at Oroville 3 years to the day after we arrived.
This was 5 weeks ago- the crossing was fairly quiet- an early Saturday afternoon.
The Americans were unusually pleasant and speedy. Our first Canadian border guard was welcoming and friendly, then we went indoors to be processed.
We entered an empty room apart from one plain clothes cashier. She said to have a seat.
There we sat for about 15mins in plain sight of officers sat at their desks. She eventually went to talk to one of them, obviously gesturing to us. He ambled over. Then spent 5 mins or so reading each COPR, then he asked for the letter we were sent- spend another 10 minutes slowly reading it- like why!!!! He was 60 at least, were we the first PRs he had done?
Then he slowly read out each form and got each of us to sign. Finished- no! He then said to sit down and he would be 10-15 minutes. NINETY minutes later- most of it spent "working"- or chatting with another officer, he came back to the desk- apologized as he was "multitasking" and without any kind of hello, or welcome to Canada, sent us on our way.
We were fuming but how can you protest to someone who hold your future in his hands! How could he cope with a plane load of immigrants at an airport? We were the only ones there apart from the odd person paying import duties.Anyway, at least it was done!

But we went to change our SIN cards and the lady at Service Canada spotted that the imbecile had not signed OH's COPR- she went ahead anyway- could she see something on her computer?- but OH did have visions of another 4 hour round trip!
Then he went to Service BC to inform them to keep our MSP in place. Seemingly, no problems.
Then we went on holiday for 3 weeks.

And FYI- no problems with the Americans re our refusal of entry- got in twice with no questions asked.
Reentered Canada in Toronto- superb experience- far more officers than people! Also the officer had no problem with no PR cards as yet and in we came.

So have just checked our mail, MSP have sent back our COPR documents as they are not filled in correctly!
He did not put the date we became PR on any of them, did not get us to sign 3 of them ( did he put wrong ones in the passports?) and he did not sign OHs.
MSP have given us 15 days- well now 2 days as we got it today, to go to CIC and correct ,then fax back.
How on earth can we do this!
It's pointless phoning- no one answers, emails- useless, can't go to CIC- ( only a 12 hour round trip) as they won't see us without an appointment.
OH wants to ignore and just wait for PR cards then send them, but given the level of incompetence of the officer, how do I even know they are on their way?
I'm worried our medical coverage is at risk, so any ideas? Does that piece of paper really matter or is the information on computer really the most important thing?
Just to vent!!
Mistakes so far:
Asking for passports when from UK
Refusing to use any kind of courier service to return passports ( well really not a mistake but appalling way to treat other countries passports)
Losing our RPRF cheque
Not answering a case specific email asking about passports
Sending passports out only after our MP had contacted them - the date on documents was 3 weeks earlier- meaning they were just sat on a desk, waiting to be posted for 3 WEEKS!
When received, kids had wrong photos on COPR
Husband was listed as their dependant
Then mistakes by CBSA chimp as above- apologies to FL ( and chimps) but I'm sure he does not behave like this guy!

As an employer myself, I would be upset and appalled if any of my staff made mistakes like this, they would now be looking for other employment. I presume the unions are strong in CIC and CBSA so it's hard to sack people but they just create work for others and it's usually the hardworking diligent ones who pick up the pieces. Sorry for the vent , I'm just so frustrated!!

No offence taken by me and I understand your frustration. Welcome to the real world of CBSA/CIC and the one size fits all Agency that has been adopted.
Unfortunately this happens too many times and especially at the smaller land border crossings. Not all CBSA officers have received the Immigration Cross Training course and are able to do the Immigration side of things. Believe me I have made our management aware of this but it will still happen until all are fully trained.
I can only speak of what happens at a Port of Entry but it would appear that you did indeed get someone who was probably a legacy Customs Officer who has received no or very little Immigration training.
My advice to others reading this and thinking of flagpoling is pick one of the larger crossings especially if in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta or BC.

Thanks FL!
So, do you think there is any point in me putting in a complaint to CBSA? I don't want anything other than others not to be messed around and treated with the disrespect we were, with forms still filled wrongly.
OH spent 2 hours today trying to get BC MSP to accept our documents, he eventually spoke to someone with common sense and all is well from that point of view, but that is 2 hours of his time and numerous people at MSP who have had work they didn't need!

Nothing wrong in filing a complaint where there are legitimate grounds for a complaint. Use this link to email the complaint. Im not saying you will get satisfaction but it makes management aware. Believe me we get complaints on the way we say hello to people and I can assure you they are looked into and responded to.

Thanks, I'll try. For all we know, this guy has had other problems, but his managers won't know if we don't tell them.
It won't flag us up for "special"attention will it?

As the FL said - welcome to the wacky world of government bureaucracy - it's all about $$$ and employment for them, not to help you.

When we landed, at Queenston/Lewiston, CBSA told us there was NO record, whatsoever, of our daughter - despite a shiny foil immigrant visa in her passport and a copy COPR form. Fortunately, on that occasion, it took less than 24 hours to rectify (thank god for email!).

In that case it could be that CBSA didnt have the information in their system however that information would have been in FOSS which is a CIC database.
If CBSA didnt check FOSS then they wouldnt know about it.
2 x Agencies 2 x different databases but all part of one Federal Govt
