Default valid work visa

I am going to edmonton mid september I have a an employer waiting to interview me. The problem is he is asking if I have a valid work visa. Can I not get a work permit at border once I have been given LMO as it is a ELMO occupation.

Did employer apply for LMO? Obviously if you are going for interview employer didn't apply for LMO yet. Not every employer can use ELMO route. Employer must first apply for approval to participate in ELMO project. Only after employer is pre-approved he may apply for ELMO.

If employer is asking if you have work permit then it is a clear indication that (1) employer has no idea about the process, and/or (2) employer is not interested or not eligible to apply for LMO or ELMO.

Employer has just replied saying if I dont have a valid work visa then he cannot offer me the position. Will still go and take chance at us border. The occupation I am going under comes under ELMO.

What chances? You don't have any chance if employer won't secure positive LMO. It is completely irrelevant that occupation may qualify for ELMO.

In order to apply for work permit (through visa post or at the port of entry) you need job offer with positive LMO - without it you'll get nothing.

ELMO is just a simplified process for pre-approved employers to apply for LMO, nothing more.
