Default US VWP and coming to Canada

Hi guys,

I am a UK citizen who entered the US on the VWP. I have to leave by the 19th of September.

In the last couple of weeks I received my Canadian passport as I am also a Canadian citizen, but have only just applied for paperwork, etc.

I am being told from someone on here that I cannot leave the US to see my family in Canada and hand in my I-94 because the rules of the VWP say I have to leave the US and go back to my original country, which is obviously the UK.

Can anyone verify this?? Is this true?? It doesn't make any sense.

Thank you for your help.
