Default US for one day to activate IEC visa

So I am taking a family member down to Montana to activate their IEC visa next week. The plan is to enter the US and stay about an hour from the border overnight then re-enter Canada the next day.

Will US immigration have any issues with this? Am I advised to volunteer this information straight away or just answer if asked? I am a Canadian PR if that makes a difference to anything.

Thanks in advance.

When I did it in April 2011 in Buffalo I picked a local tourist attraction to visit and then came back the same day.

That is exactly what I told them i was going to do at both the US border and the Canadian. I had no problems.

I think I'll just tell them we're going to have a look at Glacier National Park then which is kind of true. Would it be an issue if they were aware one of us was planning to activate an IEC visa upon returning to Canada???

The US authorities really are not concerned about you activating an IEC but why are you going to the US and are you admissible to their country etc.
If admissible they will let you in if not they will turn you around.

When I did mine I went over for 2 hours, went for dinner and a trip to walmart. Took longer getting into the states then re-activating my my IEC on the way back. The nice immigration officer didnt make us pay for any of our purchases too.
