US Green Card and immigrating to Canada
I do have a serious question here. I appreciate for your replies to my query.
1. How can a wife of a US citizen (conditional green card holder) immigrate to Canada ? Pls point me to a website where i could find information.
2. If you want to become a canadian PR, is it a must to give up your US greencard.
Thank you everyone.

1. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.html
BTW - what about the husband? Is he immigrating to Canada too?
2. It is not a must to give it up, but it will be lost anyway as a result of taking
permanent residency in Canada.

Re: US Green Card and immigrating to Canada
Keeping the GC (US Permanent Residency status) during long absences from the U.S. is
a recurring topic on misc.immigration.usa; I think the general consensus is that you
should see a competant immigration lawyer before leaving, or else you should assume
you've lost it.

The most likely route, depending on her qualifications, would be to pursue a skilled
worker application, although other categories do exist. Additional information on
this topic may be found at Campbell, Cohen's web site at the following URL:

In theory, it is not possible to maintain permanent resident status in both countries
indefinitely. If successful in both applications, such status in one country will
likely have to be forfeited.
